Frequently Asked Questions

Why Is It Cheaper to Buy a Headstone Online?

Yes, purchasing a headstone online is often more affordable than buying from a funeral home or local monument dealer. Here’s why buying a headstone online can save you money:

Lower Overhead Costs: Online headstone retailers typically have lower overhead expenses compared to physical stores. Without the need for a showroom or local advertising, they can offer more competitive prices.

Direct-to-Consumer Savings: Many online sellers operate on a direct-to-consumer model, eliminating the middleman. This reduces the markup that often comes with purchasing through a funeral home or third-party vendor, resulting in cheaper headstones.

Transparent and Competitive Pricing: Online headstone stores usually list their prices clearly, allowing you to compare options easily. This transparency helps you find the best deal without the pressure of in-person sales tactics, making it easier to find an affordable headstone.

Wide Selection of Affordable Headstones: Online retailers often offer a broader selection of headstones, with various materials, designs, and customization options. This variety allows you to find a headstone that fits your budget and personal preferences.

What’s The Difference Between a Grave Marker and a Headstone?

A grave marker and a headstone both serve as memorials placed at the site of a grave, but they differ in form and placement:

  1. Grave Marker:

Form: A grave marker is generally a flat, horizontal piece of stone, bronze, or another material. It is placed flush with the ground or slightly raised, covering a portion of the grave.

Placement: It typically lies flat on the ground at the head, foot, or center of the grave.

Design: Grave markers can be simple or elaborately designed, often including the deceased's name, birth and death dates, and sometimes a short inscription or symbol.

Usage: Grave markers are often used in cemeteries that have regulations requiring flat markers for easier maintenance and a uniform appearance.

  1. Headstone:

Form: A headstone is an upright, vertical stone slab placed at the head of the grave. It is more visible and prominent compared to a flat grave marker.

Placement: It is positioned at the head of the grave, standing above the ground.

Design: Headstones often feature detailed inscriptions, carvings, and sometimes images or religious symbols. They can range from simple to highly ornate, depending on the family's preferences and budget.

Usage: Headstones are commonly used in many traditional cemeteries and are often seen as the standard form of grave marking.

The key difference between a grave marker and a headstone lies in their form and placement. Grave markers are flat and placed flush with the ground, while headstones are upright and stand at the head of the grave. Both serve the same purpose of memorializing the deceased but offer different aesthetic and practical options depending on cemetery regulations and personal preferences.
